post Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving went off fairly smoothly, so I suspect I have earned (?) "cook" status for the next few years. The package from Redbones was terrific: a smoked turkey (larger than promised!), an enormous pan of stuffing, and about a quart of gravy. I didn't know what to expect from the stuffing--it turned out to be cornbread stuffing with sausage and lots of red peppers. It was delicious, and a great counterpoint to the more traditional herbed bread stuffing that I made. I also brined a fresh turkey and roasted it, and while it steadfastly refused to become hot enough per the instant-read thermometer, the delay allowed us time to eat the appetizers.

My favorite cookie bakery, Lakota Bakery, offered one and only one holiday pie: fudge pecan. So we tried it. I was expecting something like a pecan pie with chocolate added, but it was more like a perfect fudge pie topped with pecans. It was spectacular. Also had a pumpkin pie from the Community Servings fundraiser and Kim's apple pie.

Kerry and Meghan were wonderful. Meghan is a very happy baby, very contentedly sitting around keeping herself amused with toys or bouncing in the bouncy chair. And Kerry is smart and confident and outgoing (except when she falls asleep at the table). Quite a good day.

Today has featured the gym and my first pass at shopping in Cambridge. I hope they have their "midnight madness" shopping night on the stretch of Mass Ave between Porter Square and Harvard Square again this year.
